Everything Floats Downstream

installation performance, Tibur River, Rome

The Tibur River has flowed relatively unchanged through the length of Rome's history, both literally and figuratively.  Crossing the river over its bridges ancient and modern, I often pause and stare at the waters below.  I wonder how many others have done the same during the past 2 millennia.  I add my thoughts, wishes, hopes, dreams and fears to theirs and allow them to join the unending stream.

On a May afternoon in 2019, I carried large scale cut-outs of iconic Roman sculptures and tossed them one by one into the river and let them float downstream beneath the bridges and sun (and passing boats) and said good-bye as I watched them journey towards the sea.
